Our mission is to cultivate a Sustainable Nantucket island community by supporting local agriculture, food producers and makers.

We do this by:

  • Strengthening Nantucket’s local food system to build a more resilient island community.

  • Supporting farmers, food producers, and makers to ensure fresh, local food is accessible to all.

  • Expanding access to island-grown food in homes, markets, and restaurants.

  • Empowering new and existing farms to increase the availability of nutritious, locally grown food.

  • Providing education in schools and the community to inspire a love for growing, cooking, and eating fresh, healthy food.

Who we are

Sustainable Nantucket (SN) is a grassroots, local, non-profit organization that is building a more locally-based and self-reliant food system on-island through education, advocacy, training, and partnerships which include farmers, fishermen, local food producers, schools, restaurants, and other community stakeholders.

We raise awareness about local food, connect consumers to local food sources, advocate for greater local production, and work with our growers and food producers to develop creative methods to access resources and expand markets.

While the benefits of local food access are numerous, advantages for the community include , , and building food security and food sovereignty on-island.

  • Improving public health and nutrition

  • Reclaiming the agricultural market as an economic driver on the island

  • Building food security and food sovereignty on-island.
