Barrie Sanders
Barrie Fee Sanders is a printmaker.
Born and raised on Nantucket, Barrie’s prints are inspired by childhood memories, island adventures, and favorite places. She carves into wood, lino and soft carve materials and prints onto paper and fabric right in her mid-island “studio” (aka diningroom) on Nantucket.
Previously a teacher, stay-at-home-Mom, and advertising AE, this whole “art thing” had been put on hold for quite a while. Then the pandemic hit. (The perfect time to live a life-long dream of making things. All. Day. Long.)
Her new art adventure began with a project on Instagram called @60_by_60. Barrie set a goal of creating 60 hand-made prints in the 6 months prior to her 60th birthday. The theme of the project: memories. Most were based on childhood reflections of living on Nantucket in the 60’s and 70’s. The project is over, but the prints and fun-to-read stories live on. Experience them on Instagram @60_by_60.
Barrie started barrie.prints in February 2021. She continues living her dream of spending each day sketching, carving, mixing ink, printing, fulfilling orders, and packaging prints for the Sustainable Nantucket Farmers and Artisans Market. Look for her prints and cards at various island locations. To stay in the loop, follow along on Instagram @barrie.prints. Barrie is available for commissions and collaborations.
