Nancy has a background in medical research and has worked in labs in Glasgow, Calgary, Basel, London and New York before washing ashore in the early 90's. While she was in the labs she worked on new techniques and enjoyed problem solving. She learned that to prove a concept to be true the experiment has to be repeated 10 or 20 times at least. While somewhat repetitive, She learned to experiment, be happy with the result and move on.
On retirement she became fascinated by a book entitled ‘textiles in metal’. She learned how to make fabric from silver wire using crochet hooks and knitting needles. Since then she has continued to experiment by transforming fine sheet metal into 3-D structures, adding texture with Nantucket sea salt, sand or lichen, and incorporating pearls, crystals, pebbles and color through resin. She has never made 2 pieces alike and they are often intentionally mismatched. Every piece is completely original.
At a market years ago a woman admired her work but could not commit to making a purchase. The woman stated, “I have so much jewelry that I have no more room in my drawer”
That made Nancy think: Why do we stuff our treasures out of sight when we could admire them on the wall?
She now sketches faces to which she adds her work and displays them in shadow boxes.
Problem solved.

Not in the drawer’
