Interested in learning how to beecome a beekeeper ?
This free workshop at the farm is a great place to learn more! Peter Brace, the mentor of our beekeeping program will be hosting this event at the farm.
Sustainable Nantucket’s beekeeper mentoring program begins its fourth year with an Introduction to Beekeeping event on Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at Sustainable Nantucket’s Community Farm Institute at 168 Hummock Pond Road.
We are looking for year-round residents interested in becoming beekeepers starting in the spring of 2022. Those who decide to become beekeepers through this program will be paired with an experienced beekeeper from Nantucket’s bACKyard Beekeepers who will guide fledgling beekeepers through their first year of beekeeping. You will be required to keep at least one of your hives at Sustainable’s farm and will have use of our honey extractor, exposure to experienced beekeepers at the farm and the ability to sell your honey at our farm stand.
Come learn about bees, beekeeping, equipment, the costs and the sweet rewards! We will check out our existing hives, look at the extractor and tour the farm.
Equipment, bee colony cost and resources sheet will be provided.
Please, no dogs at the farm.
