Sustainable Nantucket’s Mentor Farmer Program (MFP) is dedicated to expanding sustainable agriculture on the island by nurturing the next generation of farmers. Through hands-on training, workshops, and grower education, we provide aspiring farmers with the skills and resources needed to build a career in local agriculture.
The Walter F. Ballinger Mentor Farmers Program located at the Sustainable Nantucket Farm at Mt. Vernon Farm-a Land Bank Property, at 168 Hummock Pond, was established in 2015 in a partnership with the Nantucket Land Bank, and offers a low risk learning environment and affordable land to new growers. We are grateful for the 7+ acres on which we farm under license from the Nantucket Land Bank.
Our farmstand and education building at 168 Hummock Pond Road is at the heart of this mission—where our mentor farmers not only gain experience but also sell their freshly harvested produce, flowers, and honey throughout the season, connecting the community to truly local food.
