Join Sustainable Nantucket’s mentor beekeeper, Peter Brace, for a workshop on bringing your hives out of late winter into early spring. If you’re new to beekeeping and your first-ever hives made it through this winter, or you just have beekeeping questions about this tricky time of your beekeeping year, come get some winter-to-spring transition advice from an experienced beekeeper. We’ll talk about how to approach your first hive inspection of the season, including weather considerations, feeding, checking for the queen and brood, and pest control, among other relevant topics.
This workshop is not a general introduction to beekeeping. It’s specifically a how-to for beekeepers readying their hives for spring, but all bee-curious people are welcome. Weather permitting, we’ll also lift hives to check honey stores, and take a peek inside hives to see how they’re doing. Bring your bee suit. If you don’t have one, we have several suits with gloves you may borrow.
