Connecting Farms, Food, and Community for 25 years
Sustainable Nantucket (SN) is a community-driven, island-based non-profit that has been dedicated to creating a more self-sufficient and locally rooted food system since 2000. Through education, advocacy, training, and partnerships with like-minded nonprofits, farmers, fishermen, local food producers, schools, restaurants, and other community members, we’re working together to build a resilient food network on Nantucket.
Through our work, we raise awareness about the value of local food, connect consumers with nearby food sources, and advocate for increased local food production.
Celebratory Our Legacy of Local: 25 Years Strong
-
Education & Community Engagement
Sustainable Nantucket is dedicated to connecting people—especially the next generation—to the land, their food, and the power of local agriculture. Through our Farm to School Program, students get their hands in the soil, learning about healthy eating, sustainability, and where their food comes from. Beyond the classroom, we offer workshops, events, and opportunities for the whole community to engage with local food and farming in a meaningful way.
-
Empowering Local Farmers & Makers
We believe a strong local food economy is the heart of a resilient Nantucket. Our Farmers & Artisans Market is a hub where island farmers, food producers, and artists come together to share their work with the community. The NantucketGrown™ Campaign takes this a step further by celebrating and supporting restaurants and businesses that prioritize locally sourced, sustainable ingredients—keeping Nantucket’s food system thriving.
-
Growing the Next Generation of Farmers
Farming on an island comes with unique challenges, and we’re here to help future farmers succeed. Our Mentor Farmer Program (MFP) at Mount Vernon Farm, a Land Bank property, gives new and aspiring farmers the tools, training, and land access they need to grow their own businesses. Through mentorship and hands-on experience, we’re ensuring that local food production continues to expand, preserving Nantucket’s agricultural traditions for years to come.
