Washashore Farm
Misha Currie & Dan Southey
Washashore Farm is a diversified regenerative farm practicing organic methods. We grow a wide variety of fresh, seasonal vegetables, microgreens, eggs and honey for local restaurants, private chefs and the island community.
As caretakers of the land we farm, our practices aim not only to maintain the health of the soil but to create a more diversified and active soil biology. By cultivating a sustainable agrian ecology, we grow delicious and nutrient rich produce for the community we serve.
To build the farm we are building the soil. It does not yield quick results, but over time our sustainable and regenerative practices increase the diversity and life within the soil. We try to physically disturb the soil as little as possible. Left undisturbed, the soil regenerates by maintaining an environment for bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms to consume organic matter and build a living soil.
Some of the sustainable practices we use are aging wood chips we collect from our island arborists and composting our own duck manure to add organic material to our soil. Trace minerals and other organic amendments are incorporated to balance the soil and make bio-available everything the plants need to thrive.
Although we are not a certified organic farm, we only use organic seeds, amendments and practices. We are driven by a desire to improve both the health and productivity of the land and the life that inhabites it.
