Nantucket Litter Derby

We had a blast participating in the second annual Litter Derby!

Sustainable Nantucket was proud to sponsor and participate in this year’s Nantucket Litter Derby with two teams: our office home team  #litter-allythekitchensink and #royalnantucketyachtsquadron #flyingdunecombers which combined delivered over 1.5TONS of collected trashed Hobie cat hulls, stoved-in sunfish and laser hulls and assorted flotsam and jetsam  from Jetties Beach and Polpis Harbor, 100s of feet of discarded and rusted irrigation pipe from the cranberry bogs, an unearthed engine block, axle and miscellaneous car parts and 20 some bags of trash in burlap bags.  Poison ivy, strained backs and punctured tires notwithstanding, we had a blast and want to thank the DPW, Toscana Corporation, Champion Rentals and ReMain Nantucket for their part in helping us get an honorable mention.

So, get out there and get some #dirtynails, come visit us at our forthcoming events and help us bring more locally grown food to the tables of our community.

50 teams collected 18 tons (36,050 pounds) of litter!
